At the end of 2023, the volume of supplies of cocoa beans from Ecuador to Russia increased 1.6 times and amounted to 1.8 thousand tons, they reported “RIA News” with reference to data from the Ecuadorian Statistical Service. Last year, the largest suppliers of cocoa beans to Russia were Ecuador, Turkey and Côte d’Ivoire.
At the end of 2023, due to rising prices for cocoa beans, the cost of Russian imports increased 2.1 times – to $5.7 million. Russia began to increase Ecuadorian supplies of cocoa beans back in 2022. This decision is associated with drought in West Africa, which is the world’s largest producer of cocoa beans. In 2023, Russia also began purchasing cocoa beans from Turkey. The volume of supplies exceeded 600 tons, and the amount of imports amounted to $1.8 million.
In December 2023, Russian chocolate producers stated about a possible increase in prices for its products due to a global shortage of cocoa beans. Exchange prices for cocoa beans have been rising over the past three years amid a low harvest.
