Russia increased the production of valuable seafood in the first half of the year by 8.5%

Rosrybolovstvo reported on the results for the first six months of 2022. Commercial aquaculture production in Russia increased to 215.6 thousand tons (by 2.2%) compared to the same period in 2021. Production of valuable seafood, including mussels, oysters, crayfish, increased to 35.6 thousand tons (by 8.5%). This is stated on agency website on fishing.
Growth in the production of valuable seafood:
- scallops – by 9.6%, up to 18.5 thousand tons;
- mussels – by 16.6%, up to 3.6 thousand tons;
- sea urchins – by 34%, up to 3.24 thousand tons;
- crayfish – by 50%, up to 44 tons;
- oysters – up to 3.7 thousand tons.
The Federal Agency for Fishery noted that Russia has increased the production of valuable hydrobionts by 7.5 times. Thus, in 2021, the total volume of cultivation of valuable seafood amounted to 58.7 thousand tons against 7.7 thousand tons in 2016.
The agency also said that yesterday it agreed with Thailand on cooperation to develop the production of valuable seafood.
