Russia demanded from the UN to take measures to bring Russian agricultural products to foreign markets

Moscow is demanding that the UN take additional measures to bring Russian agricultural products to world markets as part of a trilateral deal on grain. This was announced by Deputy Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergei Ryabkov on the air of the Russia 24 TV channel.

“We insist that the United Nations and its specialized structures take additional measures to provide real, not declarative guarantees for the withdrawal of Russian agricultural products as part of a grain deal to world markets,” Mr. Ryabkov said.

Among the measures, the Deputy Foreign Minister listed the provision of reliable insurance, the reduction of freight and the provision of access for ships to the ports of the respective countries.

Mr. Ryabkov said that the list of issues to be resolved is known and is at the disposal of the US administration. He accused the United States of “not lifting a finger” to ensure guaranteed access for Russian agricultural products to world markets.

On July 22, an agreement was signed in Istanbul between Russia, Ukraine and Turkey, with the participation of the UN, on the creation of a corridor for the export of Ukrainian grain from the ports of Chornomorsk, Odessa and Yuzhny. On the same day, a memorandum was signed between Russia and the UN on the export of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers. As explained in the Russian Foreign Ministry, the point is to remove the obstacles that the US and the EU have created in the areas of finance, insurance and logistics for Russian products. The memorandum is valid for three years.
