Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova said that Russia plans to revive the Soviet song festival Intervision to replace Eurovision, to which Russian artists are no longer invited.
According to Lyubimova, in addition to the music competition, it is planned to organize “an independent open Eurasian film festival and film award,” and all this “in order to promote the diversity of cultures in a multipolar world.”
General Director of Channel One Konstantin Ernst, in turn, promised that there would be no politics at Intervision, it would be a “free platform” for all countries. Ernst hopes that the presence of foreign participants will be ensured by the BRICS countries.
Singer Natalya Podollskaya, who represented Russia at Eurovision in Kyiv in 2005, stated I would like to say that “any competitions and creative events are always very cool,” because “these are always things that really unite people.” However, the artist is not sure that the announced Russian competition will be able to replace Eurovision and whether it is necessary to try to create a replacement at all.
