Rosselkhoznadzor asked EU authorities to strengthen control over roses sent to Russia from Ecuador and the Netherlands due to numerous violations of phytosanitary requirements. In the department explainedthat thereby they want to prevent the spread of infected flowers.
41% of Ecuadorian and Dutch roses come to Russia through EU countries. In more than 100 cases, flowers were contaminated with “quarantine objects for EAEU member countries,” Rosselkhoznadzor said. “Quarantine objects imported with Ecuadorian and Dutch roses are the main carriers of a number of the most harmful viruses for tomato, pepper, lettuce, peanuts and a number of flower plants,” the agency clarified.
February 2 Rosselkhoznadzor expressed concerns over “systematic detections” of the humpback fly in Ecuadorian bananas and suspended the certification of five Ecuadorian banana producers as of February 5. On February 6, the department announced an increase in banana supplies from India.
