Russia and Thailand may resume flights

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister of Thailand Don Pramatvinai will visit Moscow today and tomorrow, September 5-6, for talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, follows from statements ministries. The countries plan to discuss the resumption of direct flights. The statement notes that Thailand has approved the Russian vaccines Sputnik V and Sputnik Light, facilitating the resumption of air travel between the two countries.

The department noted that Thailand maintains a neutral position regarding the special operation in Ukraine in the face of pressure from the “collective West”. This makes it possible to maintain trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, in particular, in the field of agriculture. It is noted that Thai companies are investing in the development of the agro-industrial complex of the Russian regions. The countries also plan to jointly develop innovative products in medicine, information and biotechnology.

In June, Thailand announced its intention to resume direct flights with Russia. Then the resumption was planned for the fall. It was reported that the Thai authorities are looking for ways to solve the problem with payment by the Russian payment system. Earlier, Russia reported on negotiations with Thailand on the introduction of the Mir payment system into the country. In August this year, the number of Russian tourists vacationing in Thailand increased by 61% compared to the same month last year. In July, Aeroflot reported that it plans to restore direct flights to Thailand from October 30.
