Russia and Iran discuss joint development of ten oil and gas fields

Iranian Oil Minister Javad Oudji said that the issue of joint development of 10 new oil and gas fields in Iran is being discussed with Russia. He announced this following the results of negotiations with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak in Tehran.

“In the oil and gas industry, we are cooperating with reputable Russian companies. Certain contracts have been concluded over the past two years. And some deposits are already being developed by Russian colleagues,” Mr. Oudzhi told reporters (quoted by TASS).

Meanwhile, Alexander Novak said at a press conference in Tehran that Gazprom was considering the development of the Iranian gas fields Kish and North Pars with subsequent liquefaction and supplies to the world market. According to him, to date, “in fact, all technical issues have been discussed,” the commercial conditions are being assessed.

Following his visit to Iran, the Russian Deputy Prime Minister added that Moscow and Tehran are discussing the creation of an electronic gas trading platform in the south of the Islamic Republic. “Discussions are underway to create such an electronic trading platform in the south of Iran, including using Iranian gas, using gas that will be jointly produced in the future together with our Russian companies,” Mr. Novak explained.

In July 2022, the Iranian oil company NIOC and Gazprom signed a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation in the oil and gas sector for $40 billion. Shana then reported that the projects would affect the Kish and Northern Pier fields, the development of six oil fields and the construction of export gas pipelines. Javad Oudji said today that some of the arrangements under the agreement are already “transforming into real contracts.”
