Rupert Murdoch steps down as chairman of the board of directors of media corporations Fox Corporation and News Corporation. About this today, September 21, reported News Corp. Now the board of directors of News Corp will be headed by his son Lachlan Murdoch. At Fox Corp, he was already the head of the board of directors with executive functions. Rupert Murdoch himself, who turned 92 this year, will be the honorary head of the board of directors of both corporations.

The Wall Street Journal, which is owned by News Corp, described Mr. Murdoch as one of the few media moguls “who shaped the modern era of media” in connection with Mr. Murdoch’s resignation. “He was influential in political and financial circles, earning praise from his supporters and censure from critics,” the newspaper writes.

Mr Murdoch founded News Corp in 1979, uniting quite numerous publications in Australia, Great Britain and the USA that already belonged to him at that time. In 2013, the asset was divided into two parts: one of them united all publishing assets – News Corp., the second, Fox Corporation (then 21st Century Fox), – assets of the entertainment industry, including film companies. Last year, the American media wrote that Mr. Murdoch was considering the possibility of merging them again into one company. However, in the end he refused from this intention.

News Corp, among other things, owns Dow Jones & Company (publisher of The Wall Street Journal), News UK (publisher of the British The Sun and The Times), News Corp Australia, and the book publishing house HarperCollins. Fox Corp in its current form was created in 2019 when Disney bought the bulk of 21st Century Fox. And the remaining assets, including Fox News, Fox Sports and others, became part of Fox Corp.
