Roszheldor proposed to the Ministry of Transport to open private railways for passengers – Kommersant

The Public Council of the Federal Agency for Railway Transport (Roszheldor) proposed to the Ministry of Transport to legalize the transportation of passengers on private railways. This follows from a letter from Roszheldor to Deputy Minister of Transport Valentin Ivanov, which is at the disposal of RBC.
According to RBC, the letter states that such a proposal will solve the problem of transport accessibility of single-industry towns, science cities, closed administrative-territorial entities and the largest agglomerations.
The owners of non-public tracks are most often industrial companies that act as intermediaries between Russian Railways and passengers. They often use such routes, for example, to transport employees to their place of work.
Executive Director of the Promzheldortrans Association Alexander Manyakhin, in a conversation with RBC, explained that it is necessary to resolve the issue of the status of passenger transportation on non-public railway tracks, since there is a high demand for their use among residents of remote areas of Russian regions.
First Vice-President of the Center for Infrastructure Economics Maxim Fadeev, in turn, said that he supports the proposal of Roszheldor. According to him, “removing formal bans” is an economically feasible step if there are infrastructures and free capacity with which to satisfy the demand for passenger transportation.
