Rostelecom completed the repair of the Baltika submarine cable ahead of schedule. It connects the Kaliningrad region with the Russian digital infrastructure. Damage to the cable was recorded on October 7 in the economic zone of Finland, 28 km from the damaged section of the Balticconnector gas pipeline.

“Rostelecom completed ahead of schedule restoration work on the Baltika submarine fiber-optic communication line (FOCL) from Kingisepp to Kaliningrad in the Baltic Sea in the exclusive economic zone of Finland,” the message said on website companies.

The functionality of the communication line, as specified in the material, has been restored in full. Repair work began on November 5. The company added that the accident at Baltika did not affect the operation of the communication infrastructure, since data transmission at that time took place overland routes and via satellites.

On October 12, Rostelecom notified the Finnish authorities about the failure of the Baltika cable. Finland asked to postpone repairs due to an investigation into the accident on the Balticconnector gas pipeline. Kremlin information about the causes of damage to the communication cable doesn’t own.
