The cost of diesel fuel at Russian gas stations has increased significantly over the past month, according to Rosstat data, published on December 13. According to the statistics of the department, from November 14 to December 12, the average diesel prices in Russia increased by 3.6% to 57.83 rubles per liter. At the same time, the cost of gasoline in retail remained stable at 50.85 rubles per liter, the growth amounted to a symbolic 0.1%.

Filling station costs have risen significantly since the beginning of 2022 due to increased supportive investments in infrastructure, utility costs and staff salaries (Vedomosti wrote about this on December 1). Many gas stations “operate with practically zero profitability,” Vedomosti sources complained after a meeting at the Ministry of Energy on measures to increase the profitability of filling station networks, held in mid-November. Analysts then talked about the need for indexation of fuel prices.
