Rosselkhoznadzor plans to audit foreign wineries

Rosselkhoznadzor is negotiating with several countries to begin auditing wineries and assessing the production technology of foreign drinks supplied to Russia. In this case, it is planned to conclude memorandums between the departments in the field of winemaking of the interested countries. This was reported “Izvestia” in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rosselkhoznadzor.

Thus, negotiations are already underway with Armenia, Moldova and Serbia. In total, the Russian side sent an audit request to 21 countries, which account for 90% of imports. Rosselkhoznadzor did not say which stages of production will be assessed. To begin with, the Ministry of Agriculture must “approve the technological rules for the production” of wine products.

According to the Federal Customs Service for January-October 2023, the top 5 foreign wine suppliers included Italy, Georgia, Spain, France and Portugal.

In August, the Russian government increased the duty on wine imports from unfriendly countries from 12.5% ​​to 20%. According to Kommersant, in this regard, in the last month of summer, wine imports decreased by almost 30% year on year. It was assumed that the increased duty would be in effect until the end of 2023, however, according to a Kommersant interlocutor close to the government, the period of increased fees on foreign wines will be extended.
