The Russian Poultry Union (which unites 250 enterprises producing 80% of the poultry meat and eggs market) warned of problems with poultry processing amid the departure of foreign equipment suppliers. The risks are described in the materials of this organization, prepared for the round table “Development and improvement of the efficiency of the food and processing industry in the Russian Federation”, which was held on April 24 in the Federation Council. The general director of the union, Galina Bobyleva, confirmed the existence of such difficulties. According to the organization’s estimates, now up to 80% of the equipment in poultry farms is foreign. After the departure of foreign players, Russian production began to have problems with service maintenance and the purchase of spare parts. She admits that some Russian enterprises have begun to produce analogues of parts, but their price, due to the small volume of production, is ten times higher than the original ones.
Rosptitsesoyuz does not name the companies that left Russia. But in April it became known that the Dutch company Meyn stopped supplying equipment and spare parts, as well as servicing Russian poultry farmers. As market participants said then, it is the largest player in this segment. A source in one of the poultry producing companies assures that the Icelandic company Marel may take a similar decision in the near future. They did not respond to Vedomosti’s request.
