Rospotrebnadzor supported the proposal of the Public Consumer Initiative (PII) to introduce a turnover penalty of 1% for companies that include conditions that are unacceptable for consumers in the contract – in particular, they oblige to pay for the return of low-quality goods or impose unnecessary services. The initiative may affect the trade sector, insurance companies and car dealers, follows from a letter to the OPI to Rospotrebnadzor, which is available Izvestia.
“Foreseen (OPI.— “b”) the size of the sanctions fully meet both the goals of administrative punishment – to prevent new violations, and the severity of the acts committed because of their intentional nature, ”a representative of Rospotrebnadzor told the newspaper.
Now a company that has included conditions that are contrary to the law in the contract is threatened with a fine of 20 thousand rubles. The PIO proposes to tighten the penalties and impose a fine of 1% of the previous year’s revenue on such companies.
The head of the OPI, Oleg Pavlov, told Izvestiya that over the past two years, Rospotrebnadzor has recorded a fivefold increase in the number of gross violations of consumer rights.
The Bank of Russia is also ready to consider the PPI initiative, the regulator told the publication.
