Roskomnadzor (RKN) began to create a register of hosting providers – companies that provide services for hosting equipment, data and websites. Organizations that do not join it will be prohibited from operating in Russia from February 1, 2024.
Hosting providers must submit notifications to the department by December 15, it says. message on the RKN website. New companies are required to notify Roskomnadzor at least 15 days before starting work.
“More than 40 organizations began to submit applications. 16 applications have been fully processed,” the RKN reported. The department added that the hosting services will work with the state system for detecting, preventing and eliminating the consequences of computer attacks.
Together with the RKN Monitoring Center, they will be required to undergo exercises on protection against DDoS attacks, use the National Domain Name System and take part in “exercises to ensure the sustainability of the Russian segment of the Internet.”
Hosting providers will be able to serve only those users who have undergone personal confirmation through the Unified Identification and Automation System, the Unified Biometric System, a fast payment service, or an electronic signature. The RKN added that the new rules will “protect RuNet from external threats.”
The law on strengthening security requirements for hosting providers came into force on December 1. Large IT companies, according to Kommersant, prepared comments to the order of the Ministry of Digital Development with new rules, but the ministry did not postpone the date of their implementation.
