Roskomnadzor initiated an inspection of the language learning service Duolingo for the dissemination of LGBT propaganda (the LGBT movement is banned by the Supreme Court as extremist), the department’s press service reported to TASS. Complain about the service sent “Siberian human rights group “Radetel””, created under the “Novosibirsk Coordination Council for the protection of public morality, culture and traditional family values.”
The appeal to block the Duolingo service was dated February 6. It says complaints about the app came from “concerned parents in Ufa” due to “overt LGBT propaganda.” The appeal contains screenshots from the application, which ask to repeat out loud sentences with the phrases “they are gay” and “lesbian bar”. As a translation, Guardian activists indicated “they are sodomites” and “sodomite bar.”
Separately, the appeal emphasizes that the Duolingo service was created in the USA. Guardian demanded that the Duolingo legal entity be held accountable and access to the application blocked. The letter was signed by the director of Guardian and coordinator of the Forty Sorokov movement, Georgy Soldatov, as well as a member of the World Russian People’s Council, Ivan Kvasnitsky.
Appeals and complaints are published on the website of the Novosibirsk Coordination Council in a separate tab. In particular, there is a request to cancel Kristina Orbakaite’s concert in Novosibirsk. Activists also pointed to the need to deprive Uruguayan actress and singer Natalia Oreiro of Russian citizenship because she performed at the LGBT festival in Buenos Aires.
