Since the pandemic in Russia, there has been a sharp increase in cases of theft of bonuses from customer loyalty cards. The most attractive for scammers are bonus cards of online stores and travel agencies. “RIA News” in Roskachestvo.
“Loyalty scams often involve hacking user accounts… Fraudsters first gain access to customer accounts and then steal their loyalty points. …Today, the most attractive areas for fraudsters are: online stores, travel agencies, SaaS companies, iGaming brands, financial services,” the department said.
Clients of any company whose bonuses can be exchanged for money, products or services can become victims of scammers. At the same time, the department noted that clients themselves often use fraudulent schemes, finding loopholes in the bonus program.
In addition, line personnel also carry out various frauds with loyalty cards, the department said. In particular, employees can accrue discounts to their account for an order from a real client, accrue points on their profile, and use fake accounts. “This can go on for a long time if the client does not keep track of his bonus account and does not pay attention to debit notifications,” Roskachestvo added.
The agency recommends that users be more attentive to client accounts, update passwords on them, replacing them with more complex ones, and also make sure that loyalty card data has not been hacked and is not in the public domain.
