The Federal Air Transport Agency commission to investigate the emergency landing of a Ural Airlines plane near Novosibirsk in September 2023 concluded that the incident was the result of multiple violations and errors by the crew. Among other things, the commission proposed to consider the issue of suitability for the positions of those responsible for ensuring flight safety, the newspaper reported “News” with a link to the report.

As Izvestia notes, we are talking about the deputy general director of the airline, Sergei Skuratov, quality director Alexei Fomin and flight director Sergei Glazkov. They have been working for Ural Airlines for 24 and 31 years. A spokeswoman for the airline said their suitability for the positions would be decided by the board of directors.

On September 12, 2023, an Airbus A320 flying from Sochi to Omsk decided to land at an alternate airfield in Novosibirsk before landing due to a malfunction. In the process, due to increased fuel consumption, the pilots landed the plane on an agricultural field 186 km from Novosibirsk. None of the passengers or crew members were injured.

The Rosavatsia Commission found that the pilots were unprepared to carry out emergency procedures, including calculating landing characteristics and required fuel, and acted in a disorganized and inconsistent manner. Insufficient training of pilots, says the report of the Federal Air Transport Agency, is associated with shortcomings in ensuring flight safety and organizing flight work at the airline.
