Rosatom: the fifth and sixth icebreakers of the Arktika type will be laid down in 2024-2025

The construction of the fifth and sixth Russian nuclear icebreakers of project 22220 is expected to begin in 2024-2025. at the Baltic Shipyard in St. Petersburg. “We plan that the fifth icebreaker will be laid down in May 2024, and the sixth in October 2025,” he said.
Budget investments in the construction of ships will amount to 58.9 billion rubles, the state corporation has identified its sources of funding, Kulinko added.
According to the development plan for the NSR, by 2030 the nuclear icebreaker fleet will include seven universal nuclear icebreakers of project 22220 (three of the seven were built: Arktika, Sibir and Ural), one nuclear icebreaker of project 10521 “50 Years of Victory “(introduced in 2007), one lead nuclear icebreaker “Russia” of project 10510 and four non-nuclear icebreakers, wrote formerly Vedomosti. Now more than 40 icebreakers are operated in Russia.
By 2030, the cargo flow along the NSR should grow to 150 million tons per year, in 2035 – up to 220 million tons. –2035 “may exceed the targets by 50-70 million tons.” In 2022, 34 million tons of cargo was transported along the NSR, the state corporation reported. The total cargo traffic along the NSR in 2023 is projected at 46.82 million tons.
