Rosatom plans to start construction of the fourth power unit of the El-Dabaa NPP in Egypt by the end of the year

Rosatom hopes to obtain permission to install the fourth power unit of the El-Dabaa nuclear power plant in Egypt by the end of 2023 and begin the construction phase of this section. This was announced by the president of the engineering division of the state corporation “Rosatom” – “Atomstroyexport” – Alexander Korchagin.
“Currently, work is underway at all four power units: the foundation slab is being poured at the first and second power units, today the first concrete was poured at the third power unit. We expect that by the end of this year, the same work will be done and we will receive permission at the fourth power unit, ”Alexander Korchagin told reporters after the ceremony of pouring the first concrete at the third power unit of the nuclear power plant (TASS quote).
Mr. Korchagin added that in 2023 it is planned to install technical equipment at the first power unit. The pace of NPP construction, he said, is ahead of schedule.
“El-Dabaa” is being built in the city of the same name in the province of Matruh. It will consist of four 1200 MW reactors. The construction of the nuclear power plant began in July 2022. Completion is scheduled for 2028. The Egyptian authorities expect to bring nuclear power plants to full capacity by 2030. Russia will supply nuclear fuel to the station throughout the entire cycle. In addition, Rosatom will build a special storage facility for spent nuclear fuel.
