African countries demonstrate great interest and potential for nuclear energy, said Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev. According to him, the Russian company offers them “technological sovereignty projects.”
“We propose technological sovereignty projects related to the entire chain of these competencies – from training personnel to creating enterprises here, on the territory of the African continent, and including our African partners in the technological chains that we create in Russia or in other friendly countries,” Mr. Likhachev told Rossii 24 (quoted from TASS).
Rosatom offers African countries various solutions in the nuclear power industry: not only large plants, but also small ones where there is no developed energy system. The Russian company also offers floating stations to those countries that have a long coastline.
Rosatom earlier in July did not rule out participation in a transparent tender for the construction of a nuclear power plant in South Africa, if such an offer is received. The company noted that the Koberg nuclear power plant has been successfully operating in South Africa for almost 40 years, the republic also has a SAFARI-1 research reactor.
