The Rosatom State Corporation will become the customer for the construction of four diesel icebreakers with a propeller power of 40 MW each. Vladimir Panov, special representative of the corporation for Arctic development, spoke about this. A series of ships, according to him, will be created according to a single project. Construction should begin in 2024, after the St. Petersburg Central Design Bureau Iceberg (controlled by Rosneft) completes their technical design. The lead icebreaker should be put into operation in 2028.

The indicative cost of one icebreaker, according to Panov, today is more than 30 billion rubles. Thus, a series of four ships will cost 120 billion rubles. A more accurate cost of construction will be determined upon completion of the technical project and will depend on the characteristics of the equipment, he added. Vedomosti’s interlocutor, close to Rosatom, clarified that the price will most likely “be adjusted upward.”
