Rosatom announced the achievement of the target for the development of the Northern Sea Route

Rosatom State Corporation reported that the volume of cargo transportation in the water area of the Northern Sea Route (NSR) exceeded 32 million tons. The achievement of this target was planned by the end of the year. The final results will be summed up in January 2023, follows from the message on site corporations.
The NSR is the shortest sea route between the European part of Russia and the Far East.
According to the state corporation, the total gross tonnage of ships that passed through the NSR from January 1 to December 13 amounted to 52 million tons. Cargo traffic mainly consisted of oil and gas projects – oil and oil products (7.224 million tons), LNG and gas condensate (20.489 million tons). The volume of transported coal amounted to 295 thousand tons.
Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed transfer control over the NSR to Rosatom in May. Previously, it was controlled by the Ministry of Transport together with the state corporation. As part of the Northern Sea Route Development project, it is planned to create an infrastructure that will contribute to the growth of cargo traffic up to 80 million tons by 2024 and up to 150 million tons by 2030.
