The First Mining Company (PGRK), due to Western sanctions, abandoned the floating version of the mining and processing plant (GOK) for the Pavlovskoye deposit on the South Island of Novaya Zemlya. Natalya Potapova, a representative of the company, spoke about this at the Arctic Regions Forum. PGRK is part of Atomredmetzoloto, the mining division of Rosatom. According to Potapova, because of the sanctions, the PGRK is forced to develop a new concept for the development of the field, in which the mining and processing complex will be built onshore.
Initially, the GOK was planned to be made on a floating basis – on a non-self-propelled vessel, or barge. The floating factory was preferable both economically and environmentally, Rosatom reported.
