Rosalkogoltabakcontrol denies problems with alcohol scanning in EGAIS

In Moscow stores there were no problems with scanning alcohol in the EGAIS system, Rosalkogoltabakcontrol said. A massive outage was reported by the Telegram channel Mash yesterday, March 7, in the evening.

According to the channel, many buyers were unable to pay for alcohol and cigarettes through payment terminals in Moscow. Sellers linked this to a possible hacker attack or problems on the Rosalkogoltabakcontrol servers.

“There are no restrictions on the operation of the system. EGAIS is operating as normal,” the press service of Rosalkogoltabakcontrol told TASS. Large retail chains have not yet commented on the alleged failure.

In May 2022, disruptions in the operation of the Unified State Automated Information System due to DDoS attacks led to the shutdown of enterprises. As Kommersant reported, the Moscow Brewing Company (Khamovniki, Trekhgornoye, etc. beer), as well as several other breweries, were forced to stop production. The regulator assured that EGAIS was operating as normal.

By data Rosalkogoltabakcontrol, in the first two months of 2024, alcohol production in Russia increased by 12.7%. In January-February, the country produced 26.863 million decalitres of alcohol-containing and alcoholic products (except for beer, beer drinks, cider, poiret and mead).
