Reuters: Investments of non-residents in Russian OFZs have decreased by 250 billion rubles since the beginning of 2023

Non-residents from countries “unfriendly” to Russia continue to get rid of Russian government securities. Since the beginning of January 2023 alone, the volume of their investments has decreased by 250 billion rubles, Reuters reported, citing two sources in the financial market.
According to one of the sources, non-residents sold securities at a price of 25-40% of the nominal. According to another source, the discount when buying securities reached 70%. The Central Bank did not respond to a request from Reuters.
Investments in Russian OFZs have been declining since the beginning of 2022. For last January, non-residents brought out of OFZ RUB 120 billion, in february – 172 billion rubles. By March 1, the share of non-residents in OFZs decreased to 17.8% from 19.1% as of February 1 (at least since December 1, 2012).
