Reuters: China to allow Didi app downloads

Chinese authorities will bring back travel payment apps and other online services from tech giant Didi. This could happen as early as the end of January, the agency writes. Reuters citing four sources. The agency believes the decision could mark the end of a two-year crackdown on the Chinese tech sector.
As Reuters points out, the resumption of downloads of 25 banned applications for Didi smartphones, including the service for ordering a taxi, as well as the launch of registration of new users from China, can wait.
The Chinese authorities began in 2021 to restrict the business of tech giants such as Didi, Alibaba, Baidu, Tencent. In July 2022, China’s Cyberspace Control Authority fined taxi aggregator Didi Global 8 billion yuan (about $1.2 billion). After that, Didi went through a restructuring and was forced to leave the New York Stock Exchange a few months after the IPO, which brought her $4.4 billion.
