The Association of Retail Trade Companies (AKORT) asked the Russian government to include a number of alcohol brands in parallel imports. This includes Moet, Veuve Clicquot, Finlandia, Jack Daniel’s and Hennessy. The appeal says that distributors’ stocks of alcoholic products are being actively reduced, while new deliveries are not expected. The press service of the Cabinet confirmed receipt of the document.
The source of the newspaper in retail noted that stores will soon start buying alcohol for the New Year season. According to him, the risk of shortages in a number of positions is not ruled out.
Karavaev clarified that companies that suspended the supply of their products to Russia due to sanctions provided 66% of whiskey imports, 63% of rum supplies, 82% of cognac and 100% of sparkling wines from the Champagne region. ACORT believes that it will not be possible to fully replace these positions with Russian alcohol due to a lack of technology and difficulties with the delivery of raw materials.
According to Karavaev, the problem can be solved with the help of parallel imports. Such a measure will preserve the assortment, as well as prevent an increase in the share of illegal products. In particular, AKORT asks to legalize the parallel import of Moet and Veuve Clicquot champagne, as well as strong spirits Finlandia, Baileys, Johnnie Walker, Jack Daniel’s, Hennessy, Bell’s, Olmeca, Jagermeister and others. products, including Heineken, Miller, Carlsberg, Guinness, etc.
After the start of the special operation in Ukraine, the US and EU countries imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia, which, among other things, affected the import of alcohol. Thus, the United States completely banned the shipment of alcohol, and the EU limited the supply of alcohol for more than €300 per unit. After that, the largest producers of alcoholic beverages Pernod Ricard (Chivas Regal, Jameson, Absolut, Ararat), Diageo (Bell’s, Johnnie Walker, Captain Morgan, Baileys), Bacardi (Dewar’s, William Lawson’s), Brown-Forman (Jack Daniel’s, Woodford Reserve, Old Forester) have suspended the sale of products in Russia. Some even announced they were leaving the country.
