On August 18, Vladimir Menshov’s film Shirley Myrli, restored in 4K resolution, will be re-released in Russian cinemas. As explained in the press service of the TV channel “Mosfilm. Golden Collection”, the restored film is the closest to the director’s version of the picture.
“Thanks to high-quality restoration, cinema visitors will be able to see the film in the exact colors and sound that the author intended,” the channel’s press service said in a statement (quoted by TASS).
The farce comedy Shirley Myrli was filmed in 1995. Through the story of two twin brothers, the film reflects the specifics of Russian reality in the 1990s.
Restoration of late 20th century motion pictures usually involves “cleaning” the film, including removing blemishes, scratches, and dots from the original images.
Similarly, the birthday of Viktor Tsoi in June of this year was restored the work of Sergei Solovyov “Assa”, ending with the performance of a rock musician. Assa was re-released on June 16.
