A group of Polish researchers from the Cardinal Stefan Wyshinsky University in Warsaw has restored wall paintings discovered in 2021 by archaeologists during excavations of the remains of the El Lagia church on the west bank of the Nile in Sudan, reports “Artguide”. The murals include the Mother of God, the Savior Emmanuel and two archangels. The images were drawn between the 9th and 11th centuries AD. Then the area was occupied by the Nubian kingdoms, which were part of the early Christian center of culture.
