Restarting the gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia will take months

Janne Grönlund, director of Finland’s gas transmission system operator Gasgrid Finland, expects that the Balticconnector gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia could only be restored after months. In an interview with the publication Demokraatti he said it was not yet known where exactly the leak occurred.
Balticconnector is an offshore gas pipeline between the Finnish city of Inkoo and the Estonian city of Paldiski, connecting the gas networks of the two countries. The pipeline gives Finland access to Latvian natural gas storage facilities in Incukalns.
Mr. Grönlund said that he did not want to speculate on the possible causes of the incident. He noted that there is not enough information for this. It takes several days to access the gas pipeline: you need to go through permitting procedures and prepare the equipment.
Gas pipeline Balticconnector was blocked the day before, October 8th. The reason was a drop in pressure. The parties assumed that there was a leak. Gas supplies are provided through the Inkoo floating LNG terminal.
