The secondary market for the sale of tickets to foreign concerts in the Russian Federation, which had stagnated in recent years, began to grow rapidly. Sales of tickets through Avito at the end of 2023 increased by 60%, and the number of sellers by 15%, says TMT Consulting. Given the complexities of organizing travel, ticket brokers as well as tour operators also offer services for booking hotels, paying visa fees and even transport in the country where the event is taking place.
Sales through Avito of tickets for concerts of foreign performers abroad at the end of 2023 increased by 60%, and the number of sellers by 15%, TMT Consulting told Kommersant. Thus, on the platform you can find tickets for concerts of Taylor Swift (from 55 thousand rubles), Ed Sheeran (from 19 thousand rubles), Rammstein (from 11 thousand rubles), Metallica (from 12 thousand rubles) , Coldplay (from 22 thousand rubles), Kommersant was convinced.
“In addition to purchasing a ticket, assistance is offered in purchasing air tickets, booking hotels, paying for transport within a foreign country, and paying visa fees,” noted managing partner of the agency Konstantin Ankilov. In addition, many ads state that the ticket seller may provide the buyer with prepaid cards (a payment card not linked to a bank account or line of credit, with a limited amount of funds) to “deposit into ApplePay, GooglePay, SamsungPay.”
The trend for selling tickets to concerts of foreign performers has existed for a long time, notes Sergei Babich, organizer of the Colisium international music industry forum: “There have always been people who knew how to get tickets abroad; in the 1990s, brokers found local residents who bought tickets for the best seats at the physical box office of the concert city. The money was handed over with the conductor or flight attendant.” Then the market continued to develop, but in an online format, added Mr. Babich.
“After the advent of online payment systems, citizens received direct access to purchasing tickets for events,” explains a Kommersant source on the media market. “In the case of soldout (full sale of tickets for an event.— “Kommersant”) tickets could be found on foreign marketplaces – Amazon and ebay. However, the brokers who sold them were mostly foreign residents. Now, when direct purchase of tickets is complicated, the segment has received new development.” Nowadays, quite a lot of tourists traveling abroad associate their trip with some kind of big concert; the latest example is Sting’s performance in Dubai in early January, says Daniil Kruchinin, CEO of the Eticket4 platform.
Intourist representative Daria Domostroeva calls tours to sporting or musical events “a good, salable product.” According to her, in 2023, travel to the Formula 1 races in Qatar and the UAE was in great demand; for tourists vacationing in Sharm el-Sheikh, a separate charter was made to Cairo to attend a Backstreet Boys concert. Such a product, according to the expert, usually includes a flight, a ticket to a concert and hotel accommodation for one or two nights. But tickets for popular events quickly run out, which limits supply, the expert says.
“The process of buying tickets is not easy, but you can find decent sellers,” notes Daniil Kruchinin. Some, he said, suggest opening a personal account in large foreign ticket aggregators – TicketMaster, Event Tickets: “Next, the buyer transfers money to the seller using the details and gets access to the account where the tickets are located.”
Meanwhile, the founder of TCI (specializing in working with world stars) Eduard Ratnikov does not recommend buying tickets from resellers, since “it is always a risk.” It is possible to guarantee the authenticity of a ticket on marketplaces using technologies, explains Mr. Babich, such as API authentication validation (allows you to exchange information about tickets available for sale in real time) and a dynamic QR code.
