Redbox, the largest DVD rental company in the US, is interested in buying a Netflix-owned DVD service. April 18 video streaming company announced to stop its work from 29 September.
“I would like Netflix to sell this business to me, not shut it down.” told Redbox owner Bill Rowhan in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
According to him, for “many years” he has already approached Netflix three or four times with an offer to buy the service, but each time he was refused.
“Therefore, when I saw that it was being closed, I thought: “Well, maybe they will do it now,” the businessman explained.
According to the publication, the Redbox network has 32,000 DVD kiosks in the US.
Netflix’s DVD delivery service has been running since 1998. The first DVD delivered was Beetlejuice. Since then, Netflix has delivered over 5.2 billion units. 40 million people signed up for the service. At the end of 2022, this area brought the company $146 million, which is 40% less than in 2021.
On May 27, 2022, the sites netflix.com and netflix.ru stopped opening for users from Russia, as well as the service application on SmartTV. You can only access the service sites using a VPN. After that Netflix confirmedthat stopped working in Russia.
