RBC: Volga-Dnepr air group will cut almost all Boeing pilots

The interlocutor of the publication said that at the end of July, the pilots received notices about the reduction of their posts. It is noted that several crews decided to keep in case the Ministry of Transport allows the air group to return the aircraft to foreign leasing companies. In early July, it became known that Volga-Dnepr wanted to return 14 of the 16 cargo Boeing 747s that are in Moscow’s Sheremetyevo.
The company said that headcount optimization is a “forced measure”. “It is being carried out in stages in order to be able to mothball the fleet,” a representative of Volga-Dnepr told RBC. At the same time, the air group does not disclose the total number of pilots who worked in subsidiaries. According to the source, at the beginning of 2022, there were more than 300 pilots in AirBridgeCargo, and more than 110 in Atran.
The business of the Volga-Dnepr group was directed to the global freight transportation market. But since the beginning of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, the company’s activities have declined sharply.
In mid-March, the press service of Volga-Dnepr reported that AirBridgeCargo and Atran had suspended flights due to sanctions against lessors who were banned from working with Russian companies and statements from the Bermuda Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA) to terminate airworthiness certificates.
Also, the work of the air group was affected by EU sanctions against the Russian aviation industry: a ban on the sale of spare parts and a ban on flights of Russian air carriers to Europe.
