RBC: the first online cinemas received protocols due to LGBT propaganda

Roskomnadzor revealed the first violations of the rules on the prohibition of LGBT propaganda in online cinemas. Administrative protocols under the relevant article (part 2 of article 6.21.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses) were drawn up in relation to the audiovisual services Movix and Peers.TV. They face a fine of 1 million to 4 million rubles. or suspension of activities for up to 90 days. This was reported RBC with reference to Roskomnadzor.

Roskomnadzor also identified another 15 such violations in a dozen other audiovisual services. The department did not provide details. “On all identified violations, administrative protocols will also be drawn up,” said a representative of the RBC department.

RBC sent inquiries to representatives of ER-Telecom (the owner of Movix) and Peers.TV, Okko, Kinopoisk, Start and Kion services. The press service of the Premier online cinema (owned by Gazprom-Media) stated that they had not received warnings from Roskomnadzor. Evie and Wink declined to comment.

Amendments to ban LGBT propaganda were submitted to the State Duma in October 2022. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the relevant law in December. The law establishes a complete ban on the promotion of LGBT relations, regardless of the age of the audience, as well as on their demonstration to children. Many representatives of the book business and the film industry, as well as lawyers and activists, opposed the passage of the law, pointing to the vagueness of the wording in the document.
