RBC: Rosstandart allowed the reduction of information about the expiration date on the labels

Rosstandart may allow manufacturers to reduce on the labels information about the place of production of goods and indications where the expiration date and date of manufacture are indicated on the product, reports RBC. Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko instructed the departments to consider changing national standards for label design.

According to RBC, Rosstandart may allow to reduce “data on the addresses of food production, an indication of the place of application of the date of manufacture and expiration date, signs and pictograms.” However, the department added that the change in standards should be considered as part of changes in the technical regulations of the Customs Union. The press service of the regulatory body of the Eurasian Economic Commission told RBC that they have not yet received relevant proposals.

According to the current legislation, the requirements for the size of labels are established by the technical regulation “Food products in terms of their labeling” and technical regulations for certain types of goods.

In July Victoria Abramchenko instructed departments to work out a possible refinement of Russia’s national standards in the field of labeling. The order was made at the request of the business. Food manufacturers have begun to experience a shortage of packaging and ink due to sanctions imposed in response to the military operation in Ukraine.
