RBC: June 12 in Russia will open a second air corridor for flights to the south

From June 12, a second air corridor will appear in Russia, thanks to which it will be possible to reduce the time of flights to the south. About it informs RBC with reference to sources in two Russian airlines.

According to one of the interlocutors of the publication, the airlines have already received information about the new corridor. Another source noted that the carrier’s pilots have also been informed of changes to the route to the south. The Federal Air Transport Agency declined to comment.

By data Telegram channel “Aviatorshchina”, the Ministry of Defense agreed on the opening of this air corridor. The resource writes that the route will run next to the first corridor, which became available back in August 2022. The channel’s source specified that with the opening of the second route, the flight time will be reduced by seven minutes.

“Aviatorshchina” claims that such a measure will allow the liners to be separated in the directions of flight: along one corridor, the planes will fly south, and along the other – in the opposite direction. The interlocutor of the channel specified that both corridors would be one-way.

In connection with the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, the Federal Air Transport Agency introduced a temporary flight restriction regime. Since then, 11 airports have remained closed in the south and in the central part of Russia: Anapa, Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Gelendzhik, Krasnodar, Kursk, Lipetsk, Rostov-on-Don, Simferopol and Elista.

On August 30, 2022, an air corridor became available to airlines, which reduced the time of flights from Moscow to Sochi and Turkey, wrote RBC. The corridor passes no more than 15 aircraft per hour in each direction. For flights above this limit, they are operated on the same route – through the airspace of Kazakhstan.
