The Sevastopol Marine Plant named after Sergo Ordzhonikidze (Sevmorzavod) will start building bulk grain carriers and other ships in the fall of 2024, declared in his Telegram channel, the Governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhaev, following a meeting with the General Director of JSC “United Shipbuilding Corporation» (USC) Alexei Rakhmanov.
“What I heard and saw today suggests that in Sevastopol we will start building ships again. First of all, bulk grain carriers from 40,000 to 60,000 tons (for which there are already real projects), and in the future there may be more,” he wrote.
According to him, USC has the capacity and “understanding” where to get the resources to modernize the enterprise.
“The main question that worried me as a governor is when these plans will begin to be implemented. I heard the answer – in the very near future, next autumn, the construction of the first ships will begin, ”Razvozhaev shared.
Rakhmanov, in turn, said that the design of technological equipment and the ships themselves is now underway. “By the middle of next year, we hope to have complete working and design documentation, and by this moment new machines and equipment should already be here to start work,” – quotes CEO “USC» press service.
The Sevastopol Marine Plant was established in 1783. From 2010 until the beginning of 2015, it was controlled by the structures of the former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, after which it was nationalized and transferred to the ownership of Sevastopol. At the end of 2015, the Sevastopol branch of the Zvyozdochka ship repair center signed an agreement with Sevmorzavod to lease its main production facilities for a period of 49 years. In February 2018, Sevmorzavod was transferred to federal ownership.
