The Institute for Natural Monopoly Problems (IPEM) in its monthly monitoring noted that in May compared to April 2023, the number of wagon shipments in the gondola car segment decreased by 0.9%, which should have freed up about 5.5 thousand gondola cars and limited the growth of rental rates and provision of wagons for transportation. However, there was an increase in the turnover of gondola cars by 3.8%, which increased the fleet of cars attracted for transportation by 23 thousand gondola cars, which is approximately the annual volume of their production. IPEM recalls that in 2022, 21.3 thousand gondola cars were produced, in 2021 – 24.5 thousand. The respondents noted an increase in turnover on a loaded and empty flight. JSC RZD “Kommersant” reported that the reduction in the total number of car shipments is associated with an increase in group and route shipments, which make it possible to increase the efficiency of transportation compared to wagon shipments. “The total number of wagons involved increased by 2% due to this,” they added.
