Since February 6, Raiffeisenbank has not made payments in US dollars for goods from the “electronics” category. Payments for goods in other currencies are carried out as usual, the bank’s press service told Russian news agencies.
“This is due to restrictions on the side of correspondent banks making payments in US dollars,” the press service explained the refusal to make payments for electronics in this currency (TASS quote).
Raiffeisenbank is a subsidiary of the Austrian group Raiffeisen Bank International (RBI) AG, has been operating in Russia since 1996, included to the list of systemically important financial institutions in Russia. In March 2022, RBI said it was considering all options for its Russian subsidiary, including a “carefully orchestrated exit.” Raiffeisenbank replied that it would remain on the market even if RBI exits its capital.
