Qatar signed an agreement on LNG supplies to France until 2053 – Kommersant

Today, October 11, the Qatari energy company QatarEnergy and the French TotalEnergies signed agreement on long-term LNG supplies from Qatar to France. Deliveries will begin in 2026 and will last 27 years. The annual volume is about 3.5 million tons, transportation will be carried out by sea. In France, ships will arrive at the Fos Cavaou LNG terminal, located in the vicinity of the city of Fos-sur-Mer (Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region).
Experts interviewed Bloomberg, believe that a major agreement with Qatar will allow France to diversify its sources of LNG supplies. Last year, 45% of LNG purchased by France came from the United States and only 6% from Qatar. Currently, gas covers 18% of the country’s energy needs. France is the fourth largest consumer of LNG in the world, after Japan, China and South Korea.
