Putin’s assistant Medinsky is going to the Yeltsin Center, which is being checked for foreign agency

Vladimir Medinsky, aide to the president and chairman of the Russian Military Historical Society, said that he was going to visit the Yeltsin Center next week and inspect its expositions. Formerly Deputy Minister of Justice Oleg Sviridenko informedthat the Ministry of Justice is checking the Yeltsin Center for the activities of a foreign agent.

“I was at the Yeltsin Center, spent several hours there, and I plan to come in next week and have a look,” Mr. Medinsky told TASS on the sidelines of the SPIEF, when he was asked to comment on the Yeltsin Center’s check for the status of a foreign agent. He added that for the time being, he could not say anything more on this issue.

In the summer of 2022, employees of the E center conducted an inspection at the Yeltsin Center. According to a Kommersant source in law enforcement agencies, the center was checked for information about the distribution of extremist literature, which had previously been confiscated in the office of the Ural branch of the Memorial society (the federal organization was included in the register of foreign agents and liquidated, the Ural branch was entered in the register of foreign agents).

Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region Evgeny Kuyvashev, speaking then, in defense of the Yeltsin Center, he said that the museum was created in pursuance of federal law, and its board of trustees includes the head of Vladimir Putin’s administration Anton Vaino and his first deputy Alexei Gromov, presidential envoy to the Urals Federal District Vladimir Yakushev and himself.
