Grain exports from Russia in the 2023–2024 agricultural year (July–June) may increase to 65 million tons, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with representatives of the agro-industrial complex in the Stavropol Territory. The head of state supported the idea of creating a BRICS grain exchange.
“In the 2023–2024 agricultural year, exports will be up to 65 million tons,” the president said (quoted by Interfax). For such a large volume, logistics are essential, he said. Last year, Russian grain exports amounted to 60 million tons, with a record harvest of almost 158 million tons.
Vladimir Putin also supported the proposal of the Union of Exporters to create a BRICS grain exchange. “Your idea is very good, and since in our BRICS association there are countries that both produce and buy grains, I think that my colleagues will be interested in this… At your suggestion, we will definitely work on this with our partners,” the president said ( published a transcript of the meeting Kremlin).
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, in 2023, Russia exported agricultural products totaling $43.5 billion. The majority of the amount was grain exports. In 2022, agricultural exports were smaller at $41.6 billion.
