Putin instructed to organize monitoring of information contained in video games

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the organization of monitoring and accounting of financial transactions related to video games owned by foreign organizations. It was also entrusted with monitoring the information contained in video games and checking it for compliance with Russian laws.

“Ensure the development and implementation of a set of measures aimed at organizing, with the involvement of the public law company “Unified Gambling Regulator,” constant monitoring and accounting of financial transactions related to the use of video games in the Russian segment of the Internet, the holders of exclusive rights to which are foreign organizations, if the rights for such video games are not transferred to domestic legal entities,” stated in published The Kremlin issued instructions from the President following the meeting of the Presidential Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports, which took place on October 19,

Instructed to ensure the security of information contained in video games, taking into account earlier instructions. Classify games taking into account the method of their distribution, the format of their use and the information they contain. Also monitor information contained in video games for compliance with Russian legislation.

In order to “develop the Russian video game industry,” the president ordered the development of measures to support the market for domestic video games and gaming services, attract investment in their development, and increase competitiveness.

The instructions are addressed to the government and the Association of Professionals in the Operating and Game Development Industry (APRIORI), as well as other interested organizations. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin was appointed responsible. A progress report must be submitted to the President by April 30, 2024, and annually thereafter.

In October, an announcement appeared on the website of the online game World of Tanks, calling for the purchase of special gaming equipment. The funds raised from the sale of equipment, according to the company, will be used to help Ukraine.
