Russia is a world leader in the field of nuclear technology and helps other countries in the development of nuclear energy, said Russian President Vladimir Putin. “With our assistance, nuclear energy is being created in foreign countries practically from scratch, an entire industry is being created, specialists are being trained, the necessary infrastructure is being developed in accordance with the most stringent environmental standards,” he said (quoted from website Kremlin).

According to Mr. Putin, the share of nuclear generation in Russia’s overall energy balance is planned to increase to 25% by 2045. An important contribution to the achievement of these plans will be the construction of the power unit of the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant, which has begun, the president concluded.

The head of state added that the Rosatom state corporation is currently working on the construction of 22 power units at nuclear power plants in seven countries.

In February, the head of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev reportedthat the Turkish government approved the transfer to the State Corporation of the site for the construction of a second nuclear power plant. The first power unit of the Akkuyu NPP, which was built by Rosatom, received permission to enter into operation in December 2023.
