Putin called for expanding training in the field of artificial intelligence

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that a new strategy for the development of artificial intelligence (AI) will be approved in the country in the near future. According to him, it is necessary to continue efforts in this direction, including by expanding the training of scientific developers at universities that are leaders in the quality of training of specialists.

“As one of the first steps, a presidential decree will be signed and a new edition of the national strategy for the development of artificial intelligence will be approved. Taking into account the rapid growth of technology, a number of significant changes will be made to this document, goals and objectives will be specified, primarily the expansion of fundamental and applied research in the field of generative artificial intelligence and large language models,” the head of state said at the plenary session of the AI ​​Journey conference.

Vladimir Putin said that with the introduction of AI in science, education, and healthcare, a “new chapter” of human existence begins. He noted that Russia should become one of the most comfortable jurisdictions for the development of AI. In recent years, the head of state noted, domestic sectors of the economy and social sphere have expanded the use of AI solutions by 1.5 times.

Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko saidthat the use of artificial intelligence technologies by companies will become a prerequisite for receiving budget subsidies. The approach will be tested in 2024 for companies whose revenue exceeds RUB 800 million. The government estimates that the introduction of AI technologies will contribute to GDP growth by 6% until 2030.
