Putin allowed the repayment of mortgage debts of those killed in a special operation by Rosvoenipoteka

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed lawwhich will allow Rosvoenipoteka from August 1, 2023 to repay the debt on mortgage loans of the dead participants in the military operation in Ukraine.

Prior to the adoption of this law, in the event of the death of a borrower who participated in hostilities, his obligations under a loan agreement were terminated by the lender. At the same time, the norm did not contain exceptions for participants in the accumulative-mortgage housing system for military personnel, therefore it was applied to all borrowers participating in a military operation.

Now, in the event of the death of a serviceman who was a member of the accumulative mortgage system, his obligations will be fulfilled by a special authorized body (subordinate to the Russian Ministry of Defense Rosvoenipoteka, which is engaged in information support for the military mortgage program and control over it). The law signed by the President of the Russian Federation does not apply to cases of death of participants in a special operation until October 7, 2022.

In April, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Andrei Turchak at a meeting with Vladimir Putin offered to ease the conditions of military mortgages, in particular, to reduce the minimum repayment period from ten years to three or five. The President of the Russian Federation supported this initiative.
