Pushilin spoke about the supply of coal from the DPR to Europe – Kommersant

Denis Pushilin, interim head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), said that coal from his region is supplied to Europe and Asia through supply chains. According to him, these chains have been built since 2014. Now the DPR produces 3.5 million tons of coal per year.
“You know, now, even with the truncated coal mining capacity, this is more than 3.5 million tons,” Mr. Pushilin told RIA Novosti. However, according to him, most of the coal is burned at thermal power plants of the republic.
“The rest, even taking into account the sanctions pressure on us, we have the opportunity through our logistics chains, which have been built and have been operating since 2014, to supply both European countries and Asian countries,” he said.
At the same time, Denis Pushilin noted that it is possible to extract and sell much more coal, and that the republic intends to do this even taking into account the current circumstances.
In 2013, the Donetsk and Luhansk regions together produced about 16% of Ukraine’s GDP. According to the UN, as of September 2014, more than 70% of enterprises (many of them mines) stopped working due to hostilities in Donetsk. According to DPR Minister of Coal and Energy Andrey Chertkov, in 2022, DPR enterprises produced 3 billion tons of coal, which is 2-2.5 times less than the records of 2018-2019.
Russia will invest 2 trillion rubles in the economy of the DPR over the next two years. In general, the “development budget” of the republic is 100-150 billion rubles.
