Producers of soda complained about the difficulties with the introduction of excise tax on sugary drinks

Producers of sweet carbonated drinks spoke about the difficulties at a meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture on May 5. Vedomosti was informed about this by two of its participants. According to them, the meeting was attended, among others, by representatives of PepsiCo, IDS Borjomi, as well as employees of the industry association Soyuznapitki. The companies and the Ministry of Agriculture did not respond to inquiries, the association declined to comment. The Ministry of Finance confirmed that this issue is now being worked out together with market participants in order to “find the best solution and eliminate possible difficulties.”
To organize separate accounting of homogeneous goods bottled in different branches, manufacturers need to build additional storage facilities so that positions do not mix during storage, and refine internal IT solutions. The PepsiCo representative at the meeting estimated the time needed for this at 2-3 years.
