The press office of businessman Roman Abramovich said that he did not have access to the funds received from the sale of the Chelsea football club. Because of this, he cannot be involved in their distribution, including the transfer to a charitable foundation associated with Ukraine.
“After the sale of the club, the money was never transferred to Abramovich’s account and has since been at the disposal of the British authorities. Mr. Abramovich does not have access to these funds and is not involved in the process of their distribution,” the press office told TASS.
Representatives of the businessman stressed that he would like the proceeds from the sale to go to the needs of the victims of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. He announced this even before the sale of the club. “We are talking exclusively about humanitarian assistance to the population,” Mr. Abramovich’s representatives specified.
Today The Telegraph, citing sources informedthat the British government will soon transfer £2.3 billion received from the sale of Abramovich’s Chelsea club to the fund to support the victims of the events in Ukraine. The fact that the entrepreneur will direct the proceeds from the sale of the team to such a fund became known back in March 2022.
